Gods have forsaken the denizens of this world, who consider themselves too smart. They are neo-orphans. People, who do not know they have lost their loving parents, their well-wishers and their benefactors.
Dr. Jernail S. Anand
An orphan by dictionary meaning is a child who has lost his parents. He has lost the arms, the eyes, the heart and the hands which could give him the first hand love of parenthood. As soon as we think of an orphan, the images of an orphanage come crowding and we are filled with sympathy and compassion. How these kids wait for philanthropists, or some lovers of humanity, who visit them on their birthdays, and give them answer books, pencils, pens etc. There is no dearth of people who are regular visitors and pay regularly for the wellbeing of the deprived children.
Orphans when grow up have a cutting feeling of not knowing their father and their mother, and they spend their time, thinking of them. It sometimes makes them bitter, and sometimes, they grow fonder and develop relationships wherever they find an opportunity. If they are not living in an orphanage, they are doing odd jobs on tea-stalls, or in the homes of rich people where they are ill-treated. They grow into angry young men, who are out to take revenge on the world, and girls who grow up in this grab house, are also bitter, and often they are forced to dance their way to their stomach. From the dance floor to the brothel and from the brothel to crime is not a long distance. Crime is just at a stone’s throw.
This is how we lose our young men and women to the world of crime.
Gods when look down on this earth are surprised to see so few of the people who are in the pursuit of goodness and Heaven. Very few remember God, and fewer are doing good deeds. Brahma was surprised when Narada Muni told him that on the reception of Heaven, there was one or two entries per month, while on the reception hall of Hell, there was a great footfall.
What has gone wrong, Brahma became thoughtful. Narada, finding him lost in thought, said:
“Lord, people are not afraid of Hell. They are rather afraid of Heaven. I have talked to so many. I don’t know it was Milton or some Anand, who has told about Hell in thrilling details. Men want to see Hell as an adventure. I have also seen agencies promoting religious tourism to Hell. They mentioned a visit to Purgatory, and the Lake of Fire as attractions.
I talked to a few young men, about Heaven.
“What is there in Heaven?” they asked.
‘In Heaven, there are sages and saints in white robes, sitting in meditation, praying in the presence of God.” I said.
“Praying? What a job? Don’t they have anything to do?”
The young men shook their head when I said: “There is absolute peace. No disturbance. Wonderful celestial ambience.”
“Peace? Is there no music, no dance, no disco?”
The boys were convinced, I was wasting their time.”
The report shocked Brahma. The entire world had disowned God. Then he saw millions in holy places doing obeisance.
“Look Narada, all is not lost, see how many people still believe in us”
Narada zoomed the lens of his mobile camera and now they could listen to what was going on in the mind of a worshipper.
“I don’t want a daughter. I want a son. If I get a daughter, I will kill her. This bloody lady is bearing girl after girl… My aunt was telling me to get rid of her… and remarry”
The thought of remarriage filled his eyes with romance. He bowed his head before the deity and left, placing a few coins in the chest.
These are the people who are visiting the shrines. Crooked, and criminally oriented, just if they get a chance, they would do anything.
‘Doesn’t our meditations help them regain their goodness?”
“Lord! This world has gone to the Devil. He is their God. Hell is the great picnic spot. Heaven has no attraction for them. Therefore, if we tell them to do good deeds, do you know what one of them said: He said, “By doing good deeds, you will hurl me Heaven. No No way.”
Brahma then organized a meeting with Indra and Mahesh. “These people have disowned us,” he said. The Trimurti was in a state of shock.
Mahesh lost his temper and said:
“We disown them. From today, all those who hate Heaven will become orphans. We have decided not to offer them any support. Henceforth, tell winds and waters to stop. And let the earth give them a few shakes. Only then, they will remember what the care of loving parents is. Why are we supporting these thankless species? Let us shower our love on animals, birds and insects, and on vegetations too.”
Since then, gods stopped visiting the shrines. Now people go there, but they deceive themselves. Because gods have forsaken the denizens of this world, who consider themselves too smart. They are neo-orphans. People, who do not know they have lost their loving parents, their well-wishers and their benefactors.
