NGO from Multan continues relief work in flood-affected villages of Kotdiji

The NGO is also providing cooked food, ration bags, mineral water besides treating the ailing communities.

Saiban Kissan Society, a Multan-based NGO, currently engaged in relief work in rain-affected areas of Taluka Kotdiji in Khairpur district of Sindh province, continued expanding its scope of activities to help a maximum number of villagers.

Kotdiji-Medical-Camp-Sindh-CourierKotdiji-Medical-Camp-Sindh-Courier-1The NGO had started its work from three villages of Union Council Naseer Fakeer Jalalani namely Naseer Faqeer Jalalani, Atta Muhammad Bhanbhro and Rattal Shaheed, where tent villages were established besides providing cooked food and treating the ailing villagers at a medical camp.  The NGO erected more than 50 tents in three villages.

The NGO then moved to Meghwar village of adjoining Union Council Talpur Wada and provided same facilities to the affected people. The village is located at the border of Thari Mirwah and has around 5000 population of Meghwar Community. At this village, some 1500 patients including men, women and children were treated by the medical team of the NGO. This village has 40 percent female literacy rate and the local female volunteers actively took part in relief activities.

On Saturday, Saiban Kissan Society also started the relief work in two other villages namely Bathero Sonio and village Jagir Ali Akbar of Union Council Bafo.

Kotdiji-Lunch-Sindh-Courier-1Kotdiji-Lunch-Sindh-Courier“These two villages are marooned by rainwater and the NGO’s relief teams went there in boats,” Mr. Bashir Ahmed Mallah, an old rights activist and member-elect District Council Khairpur, who accompanied the teams, told Sindh Courier on Sunday early morning.

“Some 55 tents were erected in Bathero Sonio village and 34 in Jagir Ali Akbar village. More tents are being erected in both the villages,” he said adding that several villagers had managed to shift to desert areas, who have been asked to come back as tents are being erected to provide them shelter.

Mr. Mallah said that the ration bags containing 20kg wheat flour, rice, pulses, sugar, cooking oil etc. weighing 35 to 40kg beside a 6 liter mineral water bottle were given to each family while lunch was also served to the affected families.
