All the machinery and staff should be ready to deal with any emergency situation – LG Minister

Sindh government declared rain emergency in Karachi in view of the weather forecast, according to which heavy rains are expected from Friday.

The decision regarding rain emergency was taken in a meeting presided over by Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Shah on Wednesday April 26, 2023.

Minister directed the staff to remain alert and that all possible steps should be taken to provide relief to the citizens.

Additional Chief Secretary Syed Najam Shah, MD Solid Waste Syed Imtiaz Shah, Water Board officials Syed Salahuddin, Asadullah, administrators and other officers of KMC and all DMCs were present.

Minister directed the concerned departments to immediately clean the drains, cover the manholes. “All the machinery and staff should be ready to deal with any emergency situation,” he said.

Managing Director, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) Syed Imtiaz Shah while giving a briefing said that the complaints received on 1128 and WhatsApp number will be ensured to be resolved immediately and in this regard Staff will be deployed in 3 shifts.

He added that Chinese companies, local contractors and solid waste officials have been instructed to keep all the staff and all the machinery ready.

He further informed that 2 to 3 sanitary workers will be posted at each point so that staff is present at all points for draining out the rain water. Teams will also be deployed to open the choked points and solid waste officers will coordinate with the concerned institutions. All officers, contractors and operations staff will be in constant contact.

Apart from this, the complaints related to waste and rain water drainage received in command and control and complaints center will be immediately forwarded to the concerned officers to ensure timely redressing of these complaints.

He said that compliance cells will be established in all districts to provide relief to the citizens.
