Sindh United Party (SUP) has rejected the federal government’s decision of conducting Digital Population Census in the country terming it a well-hatched conspiracy to turn Sindhi nation into minority.

“The Digital Population Census plan is the part of conspiracy aimed at reducing the representation of Sindhis in the assembly and to capture the power in Sindh,” SUP President Syed Zain Shah said in a policy statement issued here from SUP Media House on Wednesday.

“Such a conspiracy, hatched by the rulers to deprive Sindhis of the power, will cause grave harm to the foundations of the State,” Shah warned.

Zain Shah said that the rulers have waived the condition of showing the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) during the so-called Digital Population Census, which has exposed their intentions of converting Sindhis into minority but also to divide Sindh.

“Under this plan the rulers want to get registered tens of millions of outsiders and aliens in Sindh,” Zain Shah said and categorically said that his party will never accept such plans.

“We denounce such plans and will resist strongly,” he declared and added that SUP will contract other parties to devise strategy for mass mobilization against this conspiracy.

Reiterating his stance, SUP Chief said that Digital Population Census is an anti-State and anti-Sindh plan, which will never be accepted. “This conspiracy has been hatched by those elements who had been dreaming of dividing Sindh and creating new province. Certain religious parties and those doing federal politics, are also playing role in this conspiracy.”

Zain Shah recalled that in 2012 also Sindh government had planned to divide the province administratively, but couldn’t succeed due to mass protests.

Calling for an end to such injustices with federating units, Zain Shah once again warned of launching protest movement across the province.

It may be recalled that the Senate was informed in January this year that the process for the first-ever digital census in the country has begun and field operations will be carried out from Aug 1 to Aug 31.

The house was told during the question hour that the field operation involving face-to-face interviews would be preceded by a pilot census to be conducted from May 15 to June 15.
