Chicken’s Funeral – Poetry from Azerbaijan

The chicken had died heroically while defending its honor.
They went to bury the chicken,
They turned their rosary beads as they went.

The Chicken’s Funeral
———————
– Are you going to the funeral?
– No, it’s not for me. What about you?
– No, I’m not going either.
– It’s scary. All the opposition leaders will be there. We can take pictures with them.
– Someone should have said, Ahmed… what business did you have in the opposition anyway? -Now he’s dead in prison.
– He had no respect in prison.
– Yes, he didn’t even have a place in the lowest ranks of the criminal world.
– Ha, ha, ha… he worked in the library there.
At this point in the conversation of the tough guys of the neighborhood,
A rooster began to chase the chickens away.
A car ran over the chicken.
They drowned in a sea of grief.
The chicken had died heroically while defending its honor.
They went to bury the chicken,
They turned their rosary beads as they went.
