I listened while fair Nature sang,
Till every hill with music rang.
It placed a song within my soul,
And made my wounded spirit whole.

When Nature Taught Me to Sing
The world had wearied all my soul,
Its endless noise had claimed its toll.
Confusion veiled my every dream;
Life drifted like a restless stream.
The hush of silence filled the air,
While lonely shadows lingered there.
My lips were still, my tongue confined,
By broken hopes and restless mind.
I wandered by a crystal tide,
With silent sorrow as my guide.
Across the brook a forest lay,
Wrapped in the light of fading day.
I searched the woods with longing eyes,
Where whispered leaves concealed the skies.
My shadow was my only friend,
Who walked beside me to the end!
Then from the trees a cuckoo’s lay
Awoke the silence of the day.
A nightingale, with voice so sweet,
Made every breath of life complete.
Their melodies, both soft and bright,
Turned grief to hope and dark to light.
Each note became a gentle flame
That whispered softly through my frame.
A hidden rhythm stirred my heart;
A living song was born to start.
It rose like waves upon the sea
And found its voice inside of me.
The chains that bound my tongue were gone;
A brighter life had gently dawned.
My soul took flight on wings of spring,
As heaven taught my heart to sing.
I raised my voice in pure delight;
The valleys echoed clear and bright.
The mountains smiled, the rivers danced,
The winds rejoiced, the flowers glanced.
The forests swayed in sweet refrain;
The birds sang back again, again.
The earth and sky became one choir,
All glowing with celestial fire.
I listened while fair Nature sang,
Till every hill with music rang.
It placed a song within my soul,
And made my wounded spirit whole.
Then Nature smiled, serene and wise;
A gentle peace filled earth and skies.
Its voice grew still, its lesson done—
And listened… as my song lived on.
