Bhiria City Protests Against Canal Project

Awami Tahreek leads rally and sit-in in Bhiria City against Corporate Farming and Six new Canals; Traffic suspended
Bhiria City, Sindh
Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek organized a large rally and sit-in in Bhiria City, district Naushehro Feroze on Tuesday March 25 suspending the traffic. Women, children, youth, farmers, and laborers participated in large numbers, chanting slogans against the canals and corporate farming. Leaders denounced these projects as attacks on Sindh’s existence.
Demonstrators demanded immediate cancellation of corporate farming and the six canals, abolition of SIFC, halt to the sale of Sindh’s water to foreign companies, end to false terrorism charges against peaceful protesters.
Advocate Vasand Thari, Central President of Awami Tehreek, stated that the federal government in collaboration with the PPP has established the SIFC (Special Investment Facilitation Council) institution to sell Sindh’s lands and resources. Under the SIFC, six new canals are being constructed from the Indus River. Despite a drought alert in Sindh, Punjab’s flood canals including TP and CJ Link Canals remain open. The Bilawal-Shahbaz coalition government is selling Indus River water to foreign companies while Sindh suffers artificial water scarcity.
Advocate Thari condemned corporate farming, calling the six new canals “genocidal projects” threatening 70 million Sindhis. He demanded an immediate halt to these “terrorist plans.” He accused the Bilawal-Shahbaz government of becoming a “fascist regime” akin to Hitler and Netanyahu by creating anti-democratic institutions like SIFC.
Noor Ahmed Katiar, Senior Vice President of Awami Tehreek, labeled SIFC a “murderer of democracy” and called for its abolition. He accused the Peoples Party (PPP) of being a “crime partner” in anti-Sindh projects, including corporate farming and canals.
Latif Bhatti, President of Awami Tehreek’s Naushehro Feroze chapter, alleged that the PPP’s recent protests against canals are a conspiracy to sabotage Sindh’s peaceful democratic struggle. He claimed the PPP supports corporate farming and is deceiving the Sindhi people.
Demonstrators vowed to continue the struggle until Sindh’s water rights are secured.
Advocate Sachal Bhatti, Hussain Soomro, Advocate Khalid Tunio, Kainat Rajpar, Sindhya Rajpar, Zeenat Muneer, Baakh Soomro, and other prominent leaders of Awami Tehreek and Sindhyani Tehreek also delivered speeches, condemning corporate farming and the six new canals.
Leaders warned that the PPP’s tactics mirror historical oppression but pledged Sindh’s resistance would prevail.
