Amidst ongoing conflict among Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister and his Health Minister, the Khairpur Medical College (KMC) Hospital continues facing shortage of Pulmonologist Specialist, ENT Specialist, Dermatologist and Vascular/ Plastic Surgeon.

The directives, issued by the Chief Minister during his recent inspection of the hospital remain unheeded, as even the decision to suspend Director Finance of KMC Civil Hospital Khairpur has not yet been implemented.

The KMC Civil Hospital Khairpur is providing health facilities to 1.229 million population of the Khairpur.

Despite drawing the attention of the concerned authorities to the lack of Pulmonologist Specialist, ENT Specialist, Dermatologist and Vascular/ Plastic Surgeon by the Principal KMC Professor Dr. Rukhsar Ahmed Shahani and the Medical Superintendent of the Khairpur Medical College Civil Hospital Khairpur, the Sindh Health Department is reluctant to post such specialists.

The Administration of the KMC Civil Hospital Khairpur had approached Caretaker CM Sindh and Secretary Health during their visit to the KMC Civil Hospital on 25th October that the citizens are protesting and sometime misbehave the administration for the lack of the Pulmonologist Specialist, ENT Specialist, Dermatologist and Vascular/ Plastic.

The sources said that Pulmonologist Specialist and ENT Specialist who were delivering their services had been transferred from the hospital and these posts are vacant for several months.

Civil Hospital KhairpurHospital administration had also approached authorities for establishing burns ward, but there was no Vascular/ Plastic Surgeon. Besides, there was shortage of the Sonologist/ ultrasound specialist, Radiologist and the Anesthetic Surgeon in the hospital.

Principal of the KMC when contacted, he said that he had written letters in which requested the authorities to fill the vacant positions of the specialists and other staff.

He said that no doubt due to the lack of such specialists, citizens of the Khairpur are raising fingers and sometime reacted with harsh words.

He said that students of the Khairpur Medical College are also facing problems.

There are the 16 vacant posts including 07 posts of the KMC Faculty members of Professor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professors and Senior Registrar and 09 post of the Civil Hospital.

He hoped that Sindh government will address such issues in the best interest of the people of the Khairpur to provide them with treatment facilities in their own city.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the decision to suspend Director Finance of KMC Civil Hospital Khairpur has not yet been implemented.

Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir had ordered suspending Fahim Ahmed Shaikh, Director Finance of KMC Civil Hospital Khairpur during his surprise visit on 25th October.

Caretaker CM had expressed his anger on the administration of the hospital after he witnessed the inappropriate facilities.

He had issued directives for the transfer of MS Civil Hospital Khairpur Dr. Abdul Qadir Bhutto and the suspension of its Director Finance Fahim Ahmed Shaikh.

Media consultant of the Caretaker CM had circulated a handout in which it was clearly mentioned that CM issued directives of transfer of MS Civil Hospital Khairpur Dr. Abdul Qadir Bhutto and the suspension of its Director Finance Fahim Ahmed Shaikh.

Interestingly the Health Department government of Sindh had issued notification of the suspension of the MS and the Dr. Abdul Hayee Phulpoto Associate Professor of Medicine in Khairpur Medical College, but the department did not issue the suspension order of the Director Finance because, according to sources, he used his links to get reversed the directives of the Caretaker CM.

Meanwhile, Secretary Health Dr. Mansoor Abbas Rizvi, when contacted, said that his office has not yet received any such directives from CM House, however he confirmed the suspension orders of MS of the hospital and the Assistant Professor of the Medicine. He said that whenever his office receives the directives, he will comply with.

He said that his office issued suspension order of the Director Finance Sukkur.

He said that he will investigate to dig out the official behind holding up the directives of the interim CM Sindh.
