Sukkur: Orthopedic Surgery Department of Civil Hospital Khairpur of Khairpur Medical College on Tuesday performed its first ever Inter-Locking Nail Tibia Surgery by using a world-recognized C-Arm Fluoroscopic-X-Ray machine.
Head of Department of Orthopedic Surgery Associate Professor Dr. Naveed Ahmed Solangi and Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Rasheed Naper, who conducted the surgery on right leg of a patient, said that such a surgery had never been performed here in the past because of non-availability of C-Arm Fluoroscopic Machine, which popularly is known as Third Eye of Orthopedic Department.
They said that now such surgeries would be conducted at KMC hospital Khairpur to provide treatment to the patients who previously used to be referred to hospitals in Karachi. “Usually the cases of the Inter-locking Tibia and Femur Bone Fracture were being referred to Karachi, but now Orthopedic Department of KMC has undertaken its first ever such operation, which is an important milestone in the history of this Hospital of the rural background, where patients were suffering grave problems.”
Principal of the Khairpur Medical College Prof. Dr. Asadullah Mahar had procured the C-Arm Fluoroscopic Machine to meet the challenges pertaining to orthopedic surgeries which never had been performed in Civil Hospital Khairpur.
Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) is a type of surgery used to stabilize and heal a broken bone. This procedure is needed to treat broken shin bone (tibia) or fibula. The tibia, or shin bone, is the larger bone in lower leg.
