Following the inundation of several villages and severe damage to the standing crops and houses due to recent torrential rains in Kot Diji area, a team of the local volunteers, led by Ms. Khushboo Bozdar, has started distributing relief goods among the affected people, as so far they have not received any support from Sindh and the federal government authorities.

Ms. Khushboo Bozdar, who has done masters in English and is daughter of a farmer, herself is present in the field along with another girl Ms. Musarat Bhanbhro.

Kotdiji-Relief-Sindh-Courier-1Hailing from village Hidayat Ali Bozdar, Union Council Naseer Faqir Jalalani, Taluka Kot Diji, district Khairpur Mirs, Khushboo had been engaged in social works at her village and also gives tuition to the village students. Musarat, her companion in relief work, is intermediate student. With the help of Shah Nawaz Bhanbhro, brother of Musarat, and eight other volunteers, including Abdul Latif Burdi, Gul Hassan Burdi and others, they are distributing food items among the women of affected villages.

Kotdiji-Relief-Sindh-Courier-3Bashir Ahmed Mallah, District Council member from union council Naseer Faqir Jalalani, who is extending full support and supervising the relief work in the field, told Sindh Courier that he organized the volunteers’ team led by Khushboo Bozdar to reach out affected families in different villages.

“Since last week we are engaged in relief work and are also practically surveying the villages to ascertain the losses,” he told.

Kotdiji-Relief-Sindh-Courier-4It may be mentioned that the breaches had occurred in Naseer Fakir Jalalani dam after the flood water coming from the Kot Diji hills had entered into the dam causing devastation, as the gushing water inundated several villages including Atta Muhammad Bhanbhro Village, Karim Bux Bhanbhro Village, Bukhshan Burdi Village, Syed Ghulam Murtaza shah Village, Sadique Solangi Village, Shrine of Rattal Shah, Shrine of Garho Pir and many other surrounding areas.

Naseer Faqir Jalalani, the main village of the area, also faced the deluge. The Deputy Commissioner of Khairpur Saifullah Abro, Chief Minister’s Special assistant Nawab Wassan and Dr. Nafeesa Shah also visited the affected area but no measures were taken for draining out the water. The entire area is under two to five feet water and the outbreak of water-borne diseases is feared.

District Council Member Bashir Mallah suggested immediate repair of the broken banks of dam, as he feared more deluge in coming days, in view of heavy monsoon rains yet to come.
