Sindhi Culture Day: Make it More Meaningful

Through such mammoth public gatherings we can motivate the masses and give a positive direction to the society.

No doubt the Culture Day celebration is a festival that brings the happiness more like the Eid festivals. On this occasion people wear Sindhi attires and take out rallies in different areas and different cities however major events are held in Karachi where some Sindhi TV Channels use to organize the programs where thousands of people throng from across the city. The participants include men, woman and children who perform dance on live Sindhi songs. The politicians and other leaders also join the celebrations. This is an annual feature and this time too it happened on December 5.

I have observed that the organizers as well as the participants of these festivities forget to set the aim of their activities.

When the society is faced with innumerable issues like street crimes, murders, suicide incidents, poverty, hunger, rape incidents and also the miseries caused by Covid-19, which still exists making the world terrible to live, these small happiness matters more. But through these celebrations, we need to promote certain basics that can develop a positive thinking among the people to give a positive direction to the society.

These mammoth public gatherings could transform the minds if the organizers would set some themes. For example, they can promote the message for educating the girls, who want to learn and educate themselves, being one of the human rights; developing the spirit of tolerance and decency in the society; raising the voice against forced and under-age marriages, rape cases, and for alleviating the poverty etc. Such events can also help promote the language, literature and tourism.

I would suggest that this annual feature must not be restricted only to wearing wonderful cultural attires and dancing to the tunes of songs. We must spread a meaningful strong message to the society through Sindhi Culture Day making it the symbol of love, peace, and progress.
