The Formal Man – Mystic Poetry from India

This formal self

I never find in animals

Is it a human invention only

Aimed at outsmarting gods?

Physiognomy2THE FORMAL MAN

I am always trying to meet

Deadlines

And for this

Never mind redlines.

Not only clothes

I have a formal passion

For words and phrases also.

Best to suit an occasion.

Ask me for my take

On truth,

I bring in what Shakespeare said

And Socrates did.

The man who lives

Under this cover

Is a body,

Meant for formal occasions

Like birth, rebirth (procreation)

And birth lessness (death)

The real me

Is lying buried somewhere.

God gave me a mind

A beautiful face

Imparted me dignity

And natural grace.

This formal self

I never find in animals

Is it a human invention only

Aimed at outsmarting gods?

HAND TO MOUTH

We make plans for

Fifty years minimum,

Though it is another thing,

We live only from hand to mouth.

I do not mean poverty,

I mean tumbling

From moment to moment

Planning flies in the face of divinity.

Only gods have the power

To have a god plan

To bless this

And unless that man.

Things go awry whenever we use

Our wits and try

To force conclusions

On situations which confound wisdom.

Wisdom is in short supply

And has a high MRP

Where is the fault if you go

For cheaper brands with the same salt?

Man does not know

What will happen the next moment

Yet he plans for centuries

A tragi-comic figure out for vagaries.
