The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, Hakan Fidan, paid a working visit first to Kyrgyzstan and then immediately to Tajikistan.

Minister Fidan and the official delegation under his leadership held high-level negotiations with the leadership of Kyrgyzstan on January 8-9, 2024. The parties signed a series of significant agreements following the negotiations within the framework of the VI session of the Joint Strategic Planning Group between Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

On January 9, 2024, the Turkish Foreign Minister officially visited Dushanbe.

Tajikistan and Turkey signed a cooperation program for the next three years between the foreign ministries of the two countries.

The program was adopted following a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and Hakan Fidan, who arrived in Dushanbe on January 9.

“Following the bilateral meeting, the foreign ministers signed a cooperation program between the foreign ministries of Tajikistan and Turkey for 2024-2026,” the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The sides discussed matters of Tajikistan and Turkey’s interaction in the fields of politics, economics, trade, investments, education, science, culture, healthcare, and tourism.

They also addressed issues of security, counterterrorism efforts, and the strengthening of the contractual and legal basis of cooperation.

It is noted that the interaction between the two countries within international and regional organizations was considered. Fidan met and held negotiations with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.

“Turkey and Tajikistan have established strong and sustainable ties that have continued for many years. Based on this foundation, we have decided to expand relations between the two countries in all directions and sectors, in line with the joint initiatives and the will of the heads of states,” said the Turkish Foreign Minister during the meeting with Rahmon.

He also highlighted that during today’s meetings, ways for Turkish entrepreneurs to participate in the implementation of economic and trade projects were discussed, as well as issues related to the education of Tajik students in Turkey. Additionally, there was an exchange of views on bilateral relations, regional and security matters, including the political situation in Afghanistan.

Fidan arrived in Dushanbe after a trip to neighboring Kyrgyzstan, where he agreed to strengthen military, economic, and humanitarian cooperation, concluding a similar program until 2026. The Turkish Foreign Minister, during his tour, mentioned that Erdogan’s visit to the region is expected.
