Uzbekistan rehabilitates over 1000 people repressed during Soviet era

Uzbekistan is currently taking measures to observe the Month of Remembrance of the Victims of Repressions annually in August

Tashkent

More than 1,000 individuals repressed during the Soviet era have been rehabilitated in recent years in Uzbekistan.

This was mentioned in the greeting message from the President of Uzbekistan to the participants of the international conference in Tashkent titled “Jadids: National Self-Consciousness, Ideas of Independence, and Statehood,” Darakchi reports.

“In recent years, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan has rehabilitated over 1,030 compatriots – victims of the repressions of the totalitarian regime, which became another step towards restoring historical justice,” states Mirziyoyev’s message.

The President of Uzbekistan added that the country is currently determining measures to observe the Month of Remembrance of the Victims of Repressions annually in August. This includes the installation of memorial plaques on the houses where our dedicated compatriots once lived and where their descendants live today, as well as showing care and attention to their relatives.

Plans include the creation of memorial corners in the neighborhoods dedicated to the victims of repressions and memorial books for neighborhoods. There will be annual preparation and publication of collections dedicated to the lives and activities of no fewer than 100 victims of repressions and Jadids. Steps are taken to expand access to archival documents related to this important topic, allocate grants for targeted scientific research, create new artistic and journalistic works, and develop cooperation with foreign research centers, foundations, museums, and libraries.

“In the current challenging and troubled times, the ideological, political, public, educational, legal, and moral views of our great enlightener ancestors, their promotion of principles of tolerance and harmony among representatives of different nations and ethnic groups, as well as their aspirations to protect national interests, serve as a worthy example for all of us, especially the youth. The lives and feats of the Jadids will always remind us of the price paid for today’s peaceful and calm days, urging us to cherish our national independence and beloved homeland as the apple of our eye,” emphasized President Mirziyoyev.
