Language gaps hinder Sindh Information Department Operations

Sindh Information Department is moving to replace its current media tracking software due to critical vulnerabilities, specifically its inability to comprehensively detect and analyze content in Urdu and Sindhi languages
KARACHI: The Sindh Information Department is moving to replace its current media tracking software due to critical vulnerabilities, specifically its inability to comprehensively detect and analyze content in Urdu and Sindhi languages within a critical response window.
To address these limitations, Secretary Information Kashif Gulzar Shaikh today reviewed a proposed, indigenous AI-Based Media Monitoring & Analytics System during a visit to the department’s Electronic and Social Media Monitoring Cell.
Director General Public Relations (DGPR) Dr. Muizzuddin Peerzada, alongside the technical team from the Media Monitoring and Rapid Response Cell (MM&RRC), briefed the Secretary on how the existing software falls short when processing regional languages during time-sensitive misinformation crises.
The proposed in-house system aims to bridge this gap by enabling real-time detection of fake news, coordinated trends, and narrative attacks across three major languages: Urdu, Sindhi, and English.
Stressing that a timely response to misinformation is non-negotiable, Secretary Shaikh directed that the new AI platform be fully integrated with the MM&RRC’s Key Performance Indicator (KPI) monitoring framework. He praised the development team for designing a cost-effective, local solution to a complex technical challenge.
To ensure a smooth transition, the Secretary ordered the department to expedite the administrative approval process and emphasized immediate capacity-building and training for the operational staff.
The visit concluded with the Secretary inspecting the 24/7 monitoring setup, where he engaged directly with on-duty analysts to discuss day-to-day operational challenges. Other senior officials and the Consultant for the Social Media Cell, were also present. (PR)
