By Ana S. Gad

Tahira Fida, an Omani artist and writer from Muscat, is recognized for her unique contribution to contemporary Omani and international art. With a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the UK, Tahira has participated in numerous workshops with both Omani and European artists. Her art has been exhibited at prestigious international and domestic venues, such as the Art Symposium in Algeria (2016), Greece (2017), Georgia (2018), and the Louvre Museum’s Art Fair in Paris (2019). Over the years, she has garnered numerous awards, including the national Alma’ara Award of Excellence in 2018, presented by Oman’s Ministry of Culture.

Her first solo exhibition was held in 2013 at the Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muscat, followed by another at Bait Muzna Gallery in 2014, and her third was organized in Copenhagen that same year. Tahira’s art style blends Arabic abstraction with calligraphic miniatures, utilizing mixed media techniques to create her distinctive visual language.

Her work is deeply influenced by her literary background, where she explores human communication through symbols and signs. Tahira draws inspiration from ancient cave drawings and stone inscriptions, channeling these into her creations to craft a visual language that communicates non-verbally with her audience.

Dominating her canvas are earthy greens and blues – representing nature and the sky – alongside vibrant pops of color, such as yellows, reds, and pinks, to create contrast. Symbols and calligraphy fill her compositions, echoing her commitment to preserving Oman’s cultural heritage while also pushing the boundaries of contemporary art.

Tahira Fida’s work is a bridge between tradition and modernity, deeply rooted in the essence of Omani culture while resonating on a global scale.
