A freight train has been launched from China along the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor, Podrobno.uz reports.

Zhejiang Union of Railway Logistics (China), Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan) and Kyrgyz Temir Zholu (Kyrgyzstan) on June 9 launched the first block train of 30 containers from Lanzhou station in China to Tashkent. The main goal of this initiative is to test the possibilities of the corridor and identify existing problems.

A freight train with a cargo worth $2.5 million with solar panels, mechanical equipment, fabrics and other cargo will arrive in the capital of Uzbekistan in 15 days.

On the territory of Kyrgyzstan, the cargo will be transported by road. The railway along this route is only planned to be built here. The three countries involved in this project announced their intention to start building a railway in Kyrgyzstan in the near future. The corresponding feasibility study of the route has already been worked out.

The total length of the railway from the Chinese city of Karshi to the Uzbek city of Andijan will be 454 km, of which 280 km will be laid through the territory of Kyrgyzstan and 174 km through the territory of China. The construction of this line will increase the volume of transit traffic up to 5 million tons per year.

According to the preliminary parameters of the project, the shortening of the route from East Asia to the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe will be about 900 km, and the time will be reduced by 7-8 days. In addition, the construction will ensure the development of the transport infrastructure of the countries of Central Asia, provide them with convenient access to the ports of the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Ocean, and provide incentives for the development and use of natural resources in the countries of the region.
