SU, SIEHS Forge Health Collaboration

Sindh University and Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services sign MoU to promote collaboration in the areas of emergency health, public service, research, and community engagement

The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, and the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote collaboration in the areas of emergency health, public service, research, and community engagement.

SU-MoU-Sindh Courier-1The MoU signing ceremony was held at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, also attended by faculty members and students. Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari, Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Brigadier (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar, Chief Executive Officer, SIEHS, the Chief Guest, Lutaf Mangrio, Director Operation; and Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah, Pro Vice Chancellor (Main Campus), along with Prof. Dr. Naheed Kaka, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences and Prof. Dr. Farhat Naureen Memon, Director, ORIC were present.

Dr. Abdul Razaque Channa, In-charge-Chairman, Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, presented the context of MOU and highlighted the relevance of anthropology in health sciences and emergency response. He said that anthropology goes beyond studying culture—it explores how people experience health, illness, and crisis, making this collaboration with SIEHS both timely and essential.

SU-MoU-Sindh Courier-2In his presidential address, Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Mari said: “This MoU reflects the University’s vision of developing impactful linkages between academia and practice. Partnerships like these ensure that knowledge serves humanity—especially in times of crisis. The University of Sindh remains committed to nurturing students who not only learn but contribute to society’s wellbeing.”

Brigadier (R) Tarique Quadir Lakhiar, in his remarks, stated: “We believe in empowering youth with essential life-saving skills and creating a culture of readiness and compassion. Collaborating with the University of Sindh will enable us to merge technical expertise with social insight to better serve communities.”

During the ceremony, Ms. Maria Memon, an Anthropology graduate now serving with SIEHS, was honored with a traditional Ajrak in recognition of her achievements. Souvenirs were also exchanged.

The MoU aims to foster cooperation in training, internships, research, and the establishment of an emergency takeoff point (1122) at the University campus—enhancing both academic learning and community service. (Press Release)
