West Indies women cricket team arrived in Karachi

The West Indies team landed at the Jinnah International Airport on Monday and headed to a hotel amid strict security where they will stay for a mandatory quarantined period of three days before commencing their training sessions at the National Stadium from November 4.

Scores of security personnel including the male and female commandos of Special Security Unit (SSU) will be deployed on the occasion of matches to be played between women cricket teams of Pakistan and West Indies at National Stadium Karachi.

Security and Emergency Services Division of Karachi Police has prepared a comprehensive fool-proof security plan in connection with the matches.

The plan was devised in a meeting chaired by DIG Security & Emergency Services Division Maqsood Ahmed and attended by senior officers of Police, Army, Rangers and PCB along with all stakeholders on Monday.

About 500 personnel of Security Division including 368 SSU Commandos and lady Commandos will perform security duties along-with personnel from other law enforcement agencies at National Stadium Karachi, Airport, routes, hotels and other different areas, while sharp shooters will also be deployed at sensitive points whereas, a specialized command & control bus will also be stationed at National Stadium to monitor law & order situation in surroundings of the stadium.

Moreover, Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T) team comprising highly trained and well equipped Commandos including lady Commandos will remain alert at SSU Headquarters as quick response force to challenge any emergency situation.

The National Stadium will host the matches on 8, 11 and 14 November, following which both sides will travel to Zimbabwe for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held from 21 November to 5 December.
