Arjan Sikayal authored some 30 books spanning across poetry collections, novels, articles, and autobiographies.

Today marks the birth anniversary of Arjan Sikayal, a distinguished figure known for his prowess in poetry, writing, journalism, and Hikmat. Born on November 5, 1919, in Sadhuja, Naushahro Feroze district (Formerly District Nawabshah) of Sindh, Arjan Sikayal hailed from a lineage of renowned Hakeems, with his father Detaram Nathani and Grandfather Hiranand Nathani making significant contributions in the field.

Arjan Sikayal received his early education at his hometown, Sadhuja, and later pursued further studies in Kandiaro. Under the guidance of his father, he delved into the intricacies of Hikmat. Although, Arjan was born in a family of Ayurveda experts but the literary environment at home also inspired a lot. He took active part in freedom movement during youthful days.

He displayed a keen interest in literature and journalism from a young age. According to Arjan Sikayal, he was inspired by his friend Harchomal, who wrote poetry at the age of 10-12 years.

His literary journey took a significant turn when he established the newspaper “Naw Jeevan,” using it as a platform to pen articles advocating India’s freedom from British rule. Simultaneously, his poetic compositions, infused with a profound sense of patriotism, gained recognition. He also worked as Assistant Editor from 1973 to 1978 at Sindhu Samachar, a daily newspaper published from Mumbai.

Following the partition, Arjan Sikayal relocated to Ulhasnagar, India, where he continued practicing Hikmat and pursued his writing endeavors.

Arjan Sikayal passed away on August 19, 2021.

Literary Contribution

Over the course of his life, he authored approximately 30 books, spanning across poetry collections, novels, articles, and autobiographies. Some of the titles of his books include Ghayun Ji Yatra (1989), Amar Shaheed Indra Gandhi (1985), Lenin 91968), Hik Purush Tre Istriyun (1963) and Anarkali (1954).

Awards and Achievements

Arjan Sikayal was the recipient of Nehru Peace Award for his book ‘Lenin’ while he received applaud by the government of India for his book ‘Amar Shaheed Indra Gandhi’. Both the books are biographies of two legendary political figures. He was also honored by Akhil Bharat Sindhi Boli ain Sahit Sabha for his contribution in Sindhi literature. Besides Lifetime Achievement Award from NCSPL, he also received Utam Sahitiya Award.
