The Meteorological Department has warned that the day temperatures are expected to be 06 to 08 degrees Celsius above normal in the southern parts of the country (Sindh, South Punjab and Balochistan), while 04 to 06 degrees Celsius above normal in the upper parts (Central/Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan) from 14 to 18th April. On Sunday April 13, 2025, hot and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while same weather is expected over most parts of the country on Monday April 14.

On Sunday, April 13, 2025, Karachi experienced hot and sunny weather. Daytime temperatures ranged between 27°C and 33°C (81°F to 91°F), with clear skies and occasional haze reported. No rainfall was recorded. It’s advisable to minimize outdoor activity due to the dangerous heat. This surge in temperature underscores the importance of adopting measures to protect oneself from the adverse effects of extreme heat.

Stay Hydrated

Dehydration is a primary concern during heatwaves. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid beverages that can lead to dehydration, such as caffeine or high sugar content.

Limit Outdoor Activities

The sun’s intensity is highest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. It’s advisable to stay indoors during these peak hours. If you must be outside, seek shade whenever possible and take regular breaks to cool down.

Dress Appropriately

Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing. These choices help reflect sunlight and facilitate better air circulation, keeping your body cooler. Additionally, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses can protect you from direct sun exposure.

Maintain a Cool Environment

Keep your living space cool by drawing curtains or blinds to block out direct sunlight. Utilize fans or air conditioning to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. If these aren’t available, consider spending time in air-conditioned public places like malls or libraries.

Eat Light Meals

Consuming heavy meals can increase your body’s metabolic heat. Opt for smaller, lighter meals that are easier to digest. Incorporate fruits and vegetables with high water content to help stay hydrated.

Recognize Heat-Related Illnesses

Be aware of symptoms like heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and headaches, which can indicate heat exhaustion. If you or someone else exhibits these signs, move to a cooler place, hydrate, and rest. Seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

Assist Vulnerable Individuals

Check on family members, friends, and neighbors who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, such as the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Ensure they have access to cool environments and are staying hydrated.

By implementing these strategies, you can significantly reduce the risks associated with Karachi’s extreme summer heat. Prioritizing hydration, minimizing sun exposure, and maintaining a cool environment are key to staying safe and healthy during this period.
