The social activists, writers, lawyers and other people hailing from different civil society organizations Saturday took out a rally and staged sit-in outside local press club to register their protest against municipal administration of Khairpur.

“Khairpur city has been turned into piles of garbage, and no one is going to ask the incompetent and most corrupt staff of the municipal committee, and the sanitation staff, who claim having affiliation with political houses,” the protesters said.

“It is a pity that in the global era of development and construction, we are living in a city, where the citizens are being treated like animals,” they lamented.

Protesters said that the municipal committee has turned a beautiful city Khairpur into a ruin. “The situation has compelled citizens of Khairpur to come out on roads to record the protest,” the protesters said.

Writer Mazhar Abro, civil society leader Naveed Memon, Advocate Yasir Rind, Advocate Raza Muhammad Soomro, Social reformer Naseer Ahmed Sheikh and others vowed to continue struggle and make their voice stronger. “Definitely we will succeed in pushing these corrupt officials and their backers out of the city.”

They said that it is the politicians who are bringing Khairpur city to the brink of destruction, and warned of expanding the scope of protest. “The municipal committee Khairpur has recruited the people on political grounds, who are mostly fake.”

The protesters said that they will also approach the court against the corruption of the municipal committee.

Highlighting the issues, the protesters said that the city roads are destroyed, manholes are open and the overflowing sewerage had made the life miserable. “If the bureaucracy did not move in the right direction, the condition of the city will worsen further.”
